Economist at the Department of Physics and Astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of Uppsala University's largest departments with nearly 400 employees, including about 100 doctoral students, and has a turnover of approximately 450 million SEK.
The department conducts world-class research and education in both theoretical and experimental physics and has extensive collaboration with the surrounding world. We research and teach about everything from the incomprehensibly small to the vast, including energy supply, climate development, new materials, and the universe. The department's administrative support function currently consists of 25 employees. Other colleagues work in areas such as HR, course administration, service, and communication.
Job Responsibilities
The position involves qualified economic work in one or more departments within the institution. As an economist with us, you will work with accounting, monitoring, and analysis, as well as be responsible for preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial statements for your department. The institution has many externally funded research projects, which means that project planning, ongoing accounting, and monitoring of projects, as well as reporting to external funders and audits, are a significant part of the ongoing work.
The university is a government authority with regulations and laws in the economic area that need to be monitored and followed. The various funders of research projects also have their own regulations that you need to be able to understand complex instructions, often in English.
The position involves independent work, but also close collaboration with researchers and other colleagues within the economics group and administration. As an economist with us, you will collaborate with about ten fellow economists, making it easy to get questions answered. You will also collaborate with our HR group and other functions within the administration. We hope that you actively want to contribute to the development of routines and processes. General administrative tasks may occasionally be relevant.
Qualifications
A university degree in economics with a focus on accounting, or equivalent experience deemed comparable by the employer. A few years of experience in economic work, including the preparation of budgets and financial statements with accounting and monitoring. Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both speech and writing, as well as good skills in Excel and other Office packages.
The position involves both independent work and collaboration with others. The nature of the work requires good organizational skills and a high degree of accuracy. The applicant should therefore be proven structured in their working methods and have good analytical skills. The work requires initiative and drive, as well as the ability to handle many parallel tasks. The tasks require an outgoing, proactive, and solution-oriented approach, responsibility, and the ability to provide good service and a positive attitude.
In the work, you will need to communicate financial information to people with different professional backgrounds in both Swedish and English. Therefore, personal suitability will be of great importance.
Desirable/meritorious
We would like you to have experience in economic work within the higher education sector or other public sector organizations. Experience working with EU projects is also meritorious. It is also an advantage if you have knowledge of the financial systems Raindance, Proceedo, and the payroll system Primula.
Application Instructions
The application should include a personal letter explaining why you are interested in the position and how your qualifications match the position. The application should also include a CV and any other documents you wish to submit (e.g., copies of diplomas, transcripts, references, recommendation letters, etc.)
We will review applications on an ongoing basis, and interviews may begin before the application deadline.
